Home Up Who are we?

     A Day in London

Preserved AEC Routemaster RML 2730 (SMK 730F) commemorating the first anniversary of the end of Routemaster service, Saturday 9th December 2006

"Why, Sir, you find no man, at all intellectual, who is willing to leave London. No, Sir, when a man is tired of London, he is tired of life; for there is in London all that life can afford."
— Samuel Johnson, 1777

Now, we know there is much to see and enjoy in one of the most vibrant and exciting cities in the world, but Mr Johnson did write this before the congestion charge, wheel clamping and police sirens. At The Cotswold Experience we would say – why not enjoy tranquillity and excitement in the same day? In a similar time that it would take to get from JFK to Broadway, we can whisk you from the City to lush green fields and birdsong.
For the purposes of this tour we have chosen an itinerary that would keep many people happy and occupied, but at The Cotswold Experience, we believe in customizing tours to suit you, so please take this as a ‘taster’ to whet your appetite.

You will awake to the sound of birds singing and little else, except a view of an English garden and the Cotswold Hills. Your breakfast will be a choice of healthy – fresh fruit, organic yogurt, for instance, or the live-life-to-the-full traditional English, rich in taste and with a dash of cholesterol!
At 9.00 our car will come to collect you for the drive into the capital, which will take about 60 minutes. You first stop will be:

London’s Natural History Museum.

Whether you are a research scientist or a young child there is enough wonder to keep you here for days on end. As one of the world’s most popular museums of the natural world, the curators have managed to present our fascinating world in innovative and exciting ways. Come this Summer and you can see the special features – The Amazing Butterflies exhibit or follow the Jurassic Ark trail. After a couple of hours we will drag you to to see a little of what Man has made in London from the gondolas of..

The London Eye

Originally intended as a temporary structure to celebrate the Millennium, this giant wheel takes you flying over London’s famous skyline. At over As you slowly rise to over 400’ above the Thames (so much higher than Mary Poppins!) you will experience a perspective of what was once a history lesson, geography lesson, cultural lesson and a lesson in engineering and design. After your flight we suggest a light lunch at a nearby icon of the arts in modern London….

Tate Modern

Whatever your interest in contemporary art, you will find many exhibitions in Tate Modern that will be of interest. This former power station, looking over the Thames, houses exciting different examples of international modern art, using many different medias. There can be few more sights to catch your breath than when you first walk into the giant turbine room (above).

Dinner

By now you will be ready for a full evening’s entertainment, starting with dinner at one of London’s myriad of restaurants. English cuisine, once thought to extend only as far as fish and chips, now is recognised as a diverse and excellent range of restaurants. London contains dining experiences from all over the world and we will guide you about where to eat to suit your taste.

Show

And then it’s time to hit London’s theatre land. What would you like – King Lear at the recreation of Shakespeare’s original theatre, the Globe, the History Cycle at the Roundhouse performed by the Royal Shakespeare Company, Brief Encounter, Gone with the Wind, Billy Elliott, and so much more. After enjoying the best London can offer, we will collect you from your theatre, and drive you back to your country hotel. And after a good night’s sleep you will wake, not to the sound of trucks and buses, but to rural peace and tranquillity. Ready, in fact for the next day’s exploration….
